Last Sunday the Hippie Gang from our Head Office in Brisbane, Australia went out to Grantham QLD, to volunteer for the Grantham Flood Recovery efforts. Leaving at 7.00am on Sunday morning – large coffee in hand, they drove out our new Hippie Campers to Grantham which is about 1 ½ hours West of Brisbane. After a few slight hiccups with the GPS we found our way and arrived in Grantham to start the day. This year Australia was hit by a once-in-a-life time flood event and no town suffered more than that of Grantham. Casie, who organised the volunteer work here and heads to Grantham from Ipswich (40minute drive) every Sunday to help, showed us around the town and explained just how badly they were affected. They were hit by 3 waves of water from 3 separate directions and the devastation this caused is still apparent as you go down the main street. Some houses are now completely gone while others sit the same as they have since January. We got to work shovelling mud and rock from the inside of what used to be a hardware shop and helped disassemble a house which will be rebuilt somewhere else. It was a humbling experience and the efforts that Casie and her team put into the recovery is a true testament to helping your fellow man – Something that Hippie Camper is a great supporter of!! We encourage all Hippies young and not so young :) to get out and volunteer for such a great cause!! Hippie has had an exciting past few months and to top it off we have been announced as a finalist for the Best Car / Camper Rental Australia award at the “The Golden Backpack” awards for 2011. “The Golden Backpacks” reward companies who work hardest to make backpacking around Australia & New Zealand that extra bit special. They are a bit like the backpacker industry version of the Oscars, but are driven by votes from you, real travellers. This is key as who else knows our product better than the people who are in them! This year, our hard work and all your support has paid off! With our new “look and feel” and brand new vehicles with extra features being built every day it’s a very exciting time for Hippie and we are honoured that has been recognised! This is Hippie’s second year running we have made the cut and the team would like to thank all those that have voted and supported us over the years. The winner will be revealed in Sydney in October and while a win would be amazing it’s great to be recognised and placed in the same ranks as the top companies out there!! Peace!

Hippie Camper´s parent company, Apollo Motorhome Holidays, is proud to announce the opening of its Denver branch in Colorado. This is Apollo’s 4th USA branch with 20 more branches located in Australia, Canada and New Zealand. The location is just minutes away from Denver International Airport, with nearby hotels, restaurants, and shopping. Its central US location means that Apollo now has significant coverage of the Western portion of the country. This opens up many additional popular destinations and one-way options for Apollo customers, including several National Parks and Monuments (Yellowstone National Park, Grand Tetons National Park, Colorado Rocky Mountains and Mount Rushmore in the Black Hills). The Denver branch has only recently been built and has immaculate facilities. The branch capabilities include automotive maintenance and repair, body shop (panel beaters), and trained motorhome repair technicians. At present Hippie Campers can only be hired in Australia and New Zealand but with its parent company taking on Canada and the US who knows where you´ll next see a Hippie Camper!

The Christchurch branch is still open for business and we are operating to our normal trading hours. The areas and towns outside of Christchurch are also open as usual for holiday traffic. At the branch, we are still dealing with intermittent power restrictions; however, at all times, we do have systems in place to support any power outages. Our consultants are doing a fantastic job and we thank our customers for being so understanding of the situation. The team in Christchurch have really appreciated this. All vehicles will be available to our upcoming customers as booked. Due to local authorities’ advice, we don´t have access to water to clean the outside of the vans however inside the vehicle will still be cleaned. There are various routes into and out of Christchurch open for motorists however access to the city’s CBD is still closed to the public. The Christchurch airport and the branch which is near the airport are both open for business. To all our customers, please exercise caution if travelling near the Christchurch area and try to avoid unnecessary travels to the areas affected.
