    Byron Bay & Dreamworld

It was 17 September and I was waiting on my camper I rented from Hippie Camper. The main reason why I hired from them was that I only heard good story’s and the price was very good as well. It didn’t take too long before the camper arrived and the man from the company, a really friendly person and a great sense of humour, gave me some instructions on how to use the vehicle. After a short time I was ready to “rock the road” and my plans were to visit Byron Bay.

As I wasn’t really used to driving a bigger car and I wasn’t use to drive on the left side of the road either, I was a little bit nervous at first. But after like a couple of kilometres and enjoying the beautiful sights of Australia my nervousness disappeared and I discovered that driving the camper was very easy. After a journey of 175 km, beautiful sights and 50 rocks songs I finally arrived at Byron Bay.

I must say that Byron Bay is a really charming village where you can find some nice surf shops, restaurants and bars. But obviously I wasn’t really coming for the shops and restaurants, but for the beach and the sights. So, I changed my clothes for a swim in the camper, which wasn’t too hard to do since there was plenty of room and I went straight to the beach. The first thing I noticed was that there were a lot of activities going on. Surfing, canoeing, diving, snorkelling, beach volleyball and so on. The beach was just beautiful with white sand and clear water and I wanted to jump in the water as soon as possible. After spending 4 hours on the beach, playing some beach volleyball with really friendly people, swimming and sightseeing at the look out on the beach I went to the Cheeky Monkey’s where I met some really friendly people from Holland and Germany and we had a really great time, laughing and sharing some stories. Time really flies when you are having fun, but when it was 11pm I called it the night and went back to my camper to get some sleep, because tomorrow was a new day and I planned to visit Dreamworld where I should spend a day. I have to say that the camper is pretty luxurious with the large bed, the television and fridge. And as I am used to watching television before going to sleep it was a real pleasure to have a television in the camper.

After a good night’s sleep I woke up and made me a nice breakfast, cooked a fried egg with the cooking utensils, which worked very good and had some sandwiches. Today was the day that I was going to visit Dreamwold, which is a Theme park near the Gold Coast. I heard from different people that Dreamworld has a new thrill ride called the buzz saw and some other spectacular rides. And as a Thrill seeker I wanted to check it out those thrill rides.

Once I arrived at Dreamworld and saw the rollercoaster, the giant drop and some other attractions and noticed that the adrenaline started to take over my body. I think I have been 20 times in the buzz saw and some of the other attractions I really enjoyed it.

Concluding: Awesome weekend and good camper, I would rate it 10 out of 10

    Great Ocean Road

This was our first trip within Australia. We went for 10 days during the Easter Holidays to the Great Ocean Road with our super Hippie Camper.

It was just perfect. Driving on the left was first a bit strange, but you get used to it very fast. We had the perfect time there. The weather was stunning, always just sun and no rain. We have seen so much within those 10 days and we will never forget this time!

Hippie Camper - Helping Make the World a Smaller Place!

My friend Shantelle and I recently traveled to Byron Bay from Sydney in a Hippie Camper. We went out one night in Byron and I approached these two guys that I thought were cute. We got talking and I noticed from their accent that they weren’t Aussie. I’m Canadian so I asked them if they were Canadian… YEP! They’re brothers from Toronto, which is where Shantelle is from. We got talking more and I discovered that they had spent many summers growing up in Nova Scotia, which is where I’m from. Deeper into the conversation we discovered that they are cousin’s with I guy I had grown up with. Now if that’s not a small world I don’t know what is! Later that night we all ended back at the Hippie Camper, which we had parked on the side of the street, and we pulled out the table and chairs and sat on the sidewalk until 2am playing cards! Canadian’s like playing cards and having kitchen parties (it’s what we’re known for!) and if it wasn’t for the Hippie Camper we wouldn’t have been able to do it!

    Thanks Hippie Camper!

Travels with our Hippie Camper Transformer

    Transformer = Hippie Camper
Travellers in need = Sian & Tom

How could we have known that the Hippie Camper that we collected would be more than a home on wheels for the next six weeks. We got more than we expected.

Our 6,000km trip took us up and down the East Coast from Brisbane to Cape Tribulation and back down to Sydney.

Our first need was a meditation space and to our surprise our Hippie Camper transformer came to our help when it turned into our very own meditation temple. Albeit a little small, with Tom's head hitting the roof in his lotus pose! Inspired by a visit to a wonderful yoga retreat in the rainforest's of Cape Tribulation we carried on our early morning meditation and love of yoga along the East Coast.

Transformer experience two took place on North Stradbroke Island, a short ferry ride from Brisbane. Beautiful white sandy beaches, turquoise ocean, wonderful sea life and the best ice cream I've ever tasted. Our beach front campsite enabled our Hippie Camper to transform into a 4x4 to tackle sand dunes every time we parked for the night!

Low thunder clouds and thrashing rain were what welcomed us to Sydney's Blue Mountains and our final transformer experience. Our high tech navigational system helped us to reach the Three Sisters with ease and our amphibious Hippie Camper transformed into a waterproof shield to battle the three day storm.

Where other vans failed our Hippie Camper Transformer stood tall and rose to every challenge. A great adventure. Ask in store for details!

The sun always shines on Hippie Campers

After spending too much time during our first few weeks in the country involuntarily sampling the Australian healthcare system thanks to a foot infection picked up in Singapore, and the subsequent allergic reactions to the treatment, we were hoping that hiring our Hippie campervan would be the start of some brighter times and kick-start our Aussie adventure.

We had chosen Hippie over other companies for several reasons.  Aside from the positive internet reviews, good reliability and the low price, we also wanted to drive a happy-looking vehicle that wouldn’t incur the wrath of, or insult, any locals on our journey, as designs on some other companies’ vans may do!  Little did we realise that our van, swiftly christened ‘Hattie’, would spread so much cheer along the way!

Our five week jaunt down the east coast from Cairns to Sydney was a laugh-a-minute, with memories, photos and stories to last a lifetime!  From our sweltering first night in Port Douglas through to our chilly final night on the outskirts of Sydney, ‘Hattie’ had become our ray of sunshine.  And it wasn’t just us who enjoyed it, but children and adults alike in traffic jams, on campsites and in car parks would smile, laugh or even wave when they saw us in Hattie with her big bright flowers and butterflies!

One particular highlight of our trip was at a campsite on the Gold Coast, when the arrival of our colourful van was the subject of great interest of some children who wanted to come and take a look, thus distracting an elderly couple (grandparents?) from a rather heated argument!  Hippie, it seems, is also a peacekeeper!  Later that evening, one of the children paid another visit to enquire how Santa would be getting in to deliver our presents as we had no chimney!

Another aspect of hiring a Hippie Campervan that you should be aware of is the unofficial camaraderie that exists between fellow ‘Hippies’.  Indeed, the corner of a campsite in Noosa seemed like an unofficial ‘Hippie Hangout’, not for scruffy long-haired stoners listening to Reggae, but instead for the fact that five or six Hippie vans were all staying on the site and were located in the same area next to each other, everyone of cause being happy and friendly!  The Hippie happiness spread right the way down the east coast, with each Hippie van you pass exchanging waves, smiles and an occasional beep of the horn.

And so it was to our final night in Sydney that we returned to our van from the local shop to be presented with the scene from our photo here – it seemed as though the sun was doing its upmost to keep the world of Hippie a happy one!

Our final happy act was to wrap the remaining unopened chocolates and supplies we had accumulated during our trip in Christmas wrapping paper and place them under a Salvation Army Christmas Tree located at reception at our last campsite, hopefully spreading the Christmas cheer and Hippie happiness with those less fortunate this Christmas!

It’s been a blast, and our memories in medical centres now seem a long time ago!

    HIPPY HIPPY SHAKES

Picked up this HIPPY HIPPY SHAKES (our name for this fun & lovable camper ) on 2/12/2010 from brisbane and headed north to CAIRNS. Our first stop shaking our way up the BRUCE H/WAY was a salad lunch at GYMPIE next to a lake.Onto CHILDERS , GIN GIN ,MIRIAM VALE with our 1st night stop on the BOYNE RIVER at BENARBY. Very interesting putting up annex ( which is easy when you know how )& orientating our  selfs with all the gear in the misty rain. Next morming 3rd.Dec. back on the hippy hippy trail towards ROCKY in teeming rain non stop for 6 hours.
South of MARLBOROUGH, highway was over water with SES & police directing traffic and said would be impassable for 12 hours. After 2 hours we were allowedto go on our hippy hippy way and it rained for many hours after.Passing MACKAY our 2nd. night was a great holiday resort at Horse Shoe Bay BOWEN.
North with our HIPPY HIPPY SHAKES ,water over roads, after buying a lobster road side near TOWNSVILLE , people giving us the thumbs up, we reach our nights rest at Flying Fish Bay resort. A nice drink on the Cora Coast & a BBQ puts us to rest nicely on comfortable beds.
Our final day 5/12/2010 and we are just getting use  to Flowers/Butterfly Camper.  Onto CAIRNS and with a little tear in our eyes we finally handover our HIPPY HIPPY SHAKES to its rightful owner. What a wonderful trip.  FOR GOODNESS SAKE  WE CERTAINLY DID LOVE OUR" HIPPY HIPPY SHAKES."  Thanks  CARMEL & BARRY WEBB.

    Andi & Patricia "Down Under"

Travelling through Australia with a fully equipped hippiecamper (November - Decembre 2010) we discovered a beautiful country and met wonderful people.
We started our tour in Cairns which is just a marvelous town (fantastic experience: the Great Barrier Reef! Snorkeling: http://hippiecamper.wordpress.com/2010/11/07/am-reef/) and then hit wet season in Mission Beach... very happy about sleeping in a dry camper, though...
Here's a video when picking up the hippiecamper: http://hippiecamper.wordpress.com/2010/11/11/warum-der-blog-so-heisst-wie-er-heisst/. We were always happy to see the flowers :-)
Magnetic Island was wet again. Reaaally wet! And it got even more wet when horse riding in the sea (http://hippiecamper.wordpress.com/2010/11/13/finally/). Never will forget that.
Sailing was much fun - we left the hippiecamper savely in Airlie Beach und set sails: http://hippiecamper.wordpress.com/2010/11/21/sailing-moving/.
Always a good idea: cuddle some animals - no matter what... http://hippiecamper.wordpress.com/2010/11/28/pats-got-a-roo/.
We ended up in Brisbane where we returned the camper after 6 exiting weeks. And I still can say: it was the trip of my life!

    Picking up the hippiecamper

Yeah... fun to see it... and great choice!

    Touring new south wales

After a three day stay at Sydney we got to pick up the Hippie camper. First the camper looked small but it worked out for the 11 days we stayed in our Truus (nickname).

Driving left was a challenge espacially when we started in the city, but after some time we got the hang of it. The most funny thing was, when we wanted to make a turn we used our windscreen wiper iso the flashing light. All the Ozzies saw that we came from Europe!

Our first stop was the Blue Mountains, very awesome over there! From there we went to Barrington NP, very funny campground with cows, a lot of birds and skipper the camping dog. After the inland experience we drove to Seals Rock, very awesome as well. From there went to several places along the coast. Byron Bay was the best surf spot and Lammington NP was the best Rainforest we ever saw in Australia.

Because of my job as travelagent, I drove several campervans but the Hippy was the most funny and cozy camper I ever had. And I will recommend the camper definitely to our adventures clients!

    kind regards,

    The Dutchies
